Barnes And Noble's Recent Nook Wireless Book Reader Confronts Amazon.Com's Electronic Book Reader
The contemporary Nook wireless ebook reader being produced by B&N, the worlds main book store with over 1,300 branches, seems set to lock horns with the worlds number one selling digital book reader, the Kindle.
While not long unveiled, the Nook electronic book readers are looking to ruffle Amazon's feathers even more by taking it on directly in a part of the market place, that up to yet, the Amazon Kindle has dominated. Ever since it's unveiling, initially as the Kindle then later in February 2009 as the Amazon kindle 2 , it has re-ignited the ebook reader marketplace by offering a blend of ground-breaking features, owing to it's immediate connect anywhere wireless networking and also the leading selection of novels available for download at excellent, cheaper than the high street, prices.
No doubt after going through ebook reader reviews, purchasers brought in to the idea in a big way and it is only recently that the rest of the trade have woken up to the fact that this is the potential of book purchasing. An so in the last few months we have had the message from Sony of their intention to join in the fun, with their soon to be unveiled Daily Edition, and the latest press release from B&N that their own candidate, the Nook, will be back to complete manufacture very soon.
There are no doubts that the Kindle2 is the reader everyone is gunning after. And to be truthful it's nice to see a little opposition in this sector. Yes we have had the iRex iLiad but the ebook readers reviews disliked it because it was a little on the large side to be a wireless ebook reader, perfect for workplace use with the 1:1 A4 facsimile, but much like the Kindle dx - another wireless portable reading device - not something you may want to take on vacation, or put in your handbag or pocket for that matter, and it was on no account going to compete on cost was it?
Thus now we have two significant companies ready to go head to head, with the might of Amazon, on all fronts. Sony in recent times increased the range of their store at the Sony-Store and reduced the price of their digitally shipped titles to match that of Amazons and hopefully Barnes and Noble, who have always been in the equivalent ballpark price point wise, will match them title for title also.
Now the biggest news for consumers has to be the shift away from proprietary file formats used by Sony corp. in the early days and even now utilized by the Kindle now. To explain the situation I will use Kindle2 as an example, keep in mind this is still the case with the Kindle2 so it makes it more clear.
