Clicker Dog Training

Many of us know that training your dog no matter what kind of breed it is, is always hard. But there is one way which lets you handle and dictate your dog's behavior and is both very effective and impressive; Clicker Training. No matter what kind of dog you have, clicker dog training is one of the most efficient and impressive methods for controlling and dictating a dog's behavior when trying to train them simple commands. Not to mention that clicker training needs very little time to master and with a well-operated clicker, you can teach your dog almost anything.

How Clicker Training Works

Clicker training works by training your dog to identify and associate the sound of the clicker with a specific command you give. A clicker is a device that makes a high pitched sound which you dog can hear more than 20 yards away.

But clicker dog training doesn't really begin with a clicker. Firstly, you have to teach your dog that the sound of the clicker is a treat for good behaviour. You can do this by purchasing a simple $2 clicker from your local pet store and a bag of treats that the dog can easily consume.

Also keep in mind that when you make use of a clicker your dog will always think that you're telling them that they did a good job and a reward is on the way. You can also make use of a word or verbal command in different situations.

How Clicker Dog Training is Done

There are three fundamental steps to begin clicker training. Firstly, you have to convince your dog that you want to it to do something that you want whether it is sitting, talking, rolling over, or other tricks that you're trying to teach. And once your dog has done what you wished them to do, tag it with the clicker and a reward.

By doing this at least 3 times or more, your dog will know what behavior they did and associate whenever you use the clicker, though a verbal command would be more difficult to put into practice.

You should continue on with these steps to reinforce the behavior whenever possible. Praising or petting your dog will do the trick just as well as rewarding treats and will eventually replace the behavior.

Transitioning to a Command

After your dog has properly mastered the behavior with clicker training you should transition to verbal command so that you can use it anyplace, even without having the clicker. You just have to say the command then followed by using the clicker and then rewarding your dog, they will quickly know how to associate all 3.

With great clicker dog training, your dog will eventually respond to a verbal cue without the demand for snacks or praise and the dog will simply know that the action pleases you.

Not only does this method have lots of purposes but it's probably one of the simplest ways in training your dog. You can mark and reinforce nearly any behavior with a simple, sharp command.
