They are not cheap! For a mid-priced dual processor motherboard, you're looking at around $450. And that's just the board; that isn't including the CPUs themselves. Prices range from the upper $200's all the way up to almost $1000. Contrast that with a normal single CPU motherboard at around $250 for a mid-line motherboard.
If you go the dual processor motherboard route, though, get as much board as you can. Different ones are rated for different speeds and varying chip sets. As with pretty much everything computers, get more than you need right now. Since a few months down the road you might need it! And if you're spending all this money on a dual processor motherboard, you may as well do it right.
One more consideration -- when you buy the Processor chips, make sure they have the same voltage (very important) as well as the same speed. Two processors with different speeds will slow each of them, as they try to juggle the processor load. Should you get a dual processor mother board? If you're wanting fast speed for games, but are not a power user or power gamer, then a board with a single multi-core processor would do fine. If you're building your own computer and want blazing speed and the ability to run many programs at once, then you would do well to consider a dual processor motherboard.
